Photorejuvenation and Photofacial in Seattle & Bellevue

Photorejuvenation or Photofacial is the latest technology for noninvasive skin rejuvenation. The treatment improves sun spots, age spots, dull complexions, uneven pigmentation, red flushing skin, rosacea, broken capillaries, large pores, sun damaged skin, and early signs of aging. Patients will enjoy a more radiant complexion.

At Premier Cosmetic Surgery Medispa, we are proud to offer the Palomar StarLux 500, the most powerful laser and pulsed light system on the market. During the procedure, intense pulsed light (IPL) is used to penetrate deep into the skin. The tissues absorb the light energy, which stimulates the production of collagen. With new collagen forming, the patient’s aging skin begins to soften. Fine lines and wrinkles are decreased, and redness and uneven pigmentation can be dramatically reduced.

How Does Photorejuvenation Work?

A broad spectrum of light is transmitted through a small handpiece which is gently applied to the treatment site. Special filters in the hand piece isolate certain aspects of the light spectrum, allowing penetration to different depths of the body. The light pulse is directly absorbed by the melanin in pigmented lesions. The light heats the pigment and breaks it up. Photorejuvenation light pulses heat the small capillaries that cause telangiectasia, rosacea and other vascular lesions, causing the capillaries to shrink. The light energy also stimulates collagen production. As new collagen forms, aging skin will smooth and soften, and you will notice improved texture and tone.

Will The Treatments Hurt?

With a superior cooling system that maximizes patient comfort, our Palomar Pulsed Light System uses a unique long pulsewidth that delivers energy to the skin over a relatively long period of time. This makes the pulses safer and more comfortable. You may experience a feeling similar to that of a rubber band being snapped on the skin, but most people do not report this sensation as painful. We are happy to provide you with a topical anesthetic that can be applied before treatment if you wish.

You may experience temporary redness and a mild “sunburn”- like effect that may last a few hours to a few days. IPL Photorejuvenation does not damage the skin surface unlike dermabrasion and laser resurfacing. Therefore, there is virtually no recovery time. Patients can apply makeup before leaving the office and return to work the same day. Pigmented lesions may darken and crust after treatment and are naturally shed from the skin after approximately ten days. Vascular lesions may redden or become gray after treament and will fade after ten days.

With IPL Photorejuvenation, you can dramatically improve the appearance of your skin without undergoing cosmetic surgery. This state-of-the-art technology allows you to reverse the signs of aging and enjoy healthy, radiant skin!
